An action-packed 3-day overland transit adventure through Turkmenistan from east to north, connecting Bukhara with Khiva or Nukus! Enter via the Farap border to explore the UNESCO-listed ruins of Ancient Merv before boarding an authentic domestic overnight sleeper train from Mary to Ashgabat. Spend the morning of Day 2 exploring Ashgabat's marble monuments, then venture into the Karakum Desert to visit the Mud and Water craters and spend the night in a yurt camp by the fiery Darvaza Gas Crater. On the final day, discover the medieval minarets of Kunya-Urgench before making a smooth cross-border transfer into Uzbekistan via the Shavat or Khojeili border.

Tour program

Day 1 Farap Border → Ancient Merv → Ashgabat (Overnight Train)

🛂 9:00 AM (Approx.): Meet and greet inside the main hall of the Farap Border Control Terminal on the Turkmen side; as you process your migration and passport check, the border officers will contact our team, and our local guide will enter the hall to meet you directly based on your photo.
🚌 Transfer to Ancient Merv: Depart the border terminal and travel southwest through the Karakum Desert region toward the Merv oasis (~380 km, approx. 3.5 to 4 hours).
🍽️ Lunch: Stop in Mary for a traditional local lunch break.
🏛️ Ancient Merv Guided Tour: Explore the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological park of Ancient Merv, one of the greatest metropolises along the historical Silk Road:

🚀 Train Station Transfer & Departure: Transfer to the Mary Railway Station. Board the overnight train to Ashgabat, departing at 23:20.

Day 2 Ashgabat → Darvaza Gas Crater

08:05 AM: Arrival & Meet-up: Arrive at Ashgabat Railway Station via the overnight sleeper train from Mary. Meet your private driver at the platform and transfer for a fresh breakfast.

Ashgabat City Highlights: Embark on a private, fully customizable tour of Turkmenistan's capital, known as the "White Marble City." Your guide will craft a flexible route blending ancient Silk Road history with grand futuristic landmarks and marble monuments.

Lunch: Enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

Drive into the Karakum Desert: In the afternoon, depart Ashgabat and head north into the vast Karakum Desert (~270 km, approx. 3.5 hours). Please note that certain sections of the road are rough and uneven, making the drive bumpy; this is a true off-road desert adventure.

Desert Craters Stops: En route, make short photo stops to explore the unique Water Crater and Mud Crater, witnessing the diverse geological phenomena of the Karakum Desert.

Day 3 Darvaza Gas Crater → Kunya-Urgench → Border crossing
